Fiction Is My Friend: Part IV

Allons-Y!
(This post is bigger on the inside)

Currently I'm obsessing over Doctor Who. Obsesses is an understatement.
The aliens can be kind of dumb (they remind me of the idiot bad guys on Power Rangers) and the graphics aren't that great, but I love the idea of a time traveler that goes around making all of the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff work out the way its supposed to.

I think the big reason that I love the show so much is because of all the figuring out that has to happen. Its a constant mystery of what is going on. Everything is always changing. And its not just in the story that has twists and turns. The show has been on for 32 seasons and I only started watching it on the 27th. But it works. Ok, well I'm not here to rattle on about how the show itself works, but more to proclaim my love of it. And what better way than with things I've collected on Pinterest.

"There's a plan?"-River Song
"I don't know yet. I haven't finished talking."-Doctor

"That's a fairytale"-Doctor
"Aren't we all?"-River Song

Eccleston was a good intro Doctor, but it was really David Tennant that made the show fun. He's a ball of energy that just feeds off of ridiculous situations. Regeneration is a great part of the show because it's about self discovery. Tennants entrance was

"An amalgam of the races they've conquered"
Yay! Use of the word amalgam!

"Go sit in the back of the class with the safety scissors and glitter"-Mickey Smith
"Expelliarmus! Good old JK!" (silly doctor going ahead in in time to read book 7)

The 11th Doctor has my favorite fashion sense. But I'm sick of all of the hipster crap about him. Except that Matt Smith is totally a hipster.

This genius kicking around in a Cyberman swimming cap.
DELETE!

Remember what I was saying about Tennant? It's necessary to enjoy his silliness and the evolution of the show. I'm really soaking up how Series 5 has a distinct plotline, but its kind of like Smallville, how you have to enjoy some of the stupid nemesis episodes of seasons 1-3 before the serious stuff kicks in and ruins the fun. Oh wait. What TV doesn't do that? Chuck sure has. Getting off topic.

When the new theme song plays it makes me want to dance like this. I LOVE the updated theme song!

But Matt Smith your Doctor is just so picky and hilarious!

Can you see my internal struggle yet?

Trust me. If you start you'll never want to stop.

*I Love You Kitty Boy*

Our sweet kitty boy passed away today.  We noticed a few weeks ago that he was looking thinner and getting a bit lethargic, more than normal for a house cat, but didn't think much of it. He was happy and getting along great with our older cat Niles. We only had adopted him in mid February and wondered if maybe the weight loss was from adapting to a new environment.
We took him to the vet when we realized just how significant his problem seemed to be. The result was that he had a fatty liver and his muscles were deteriorating because he was too nauseous to eat.  He was also severely dehydrated.  He was given lots of fluids and after an ultrasound revealed no tumor or anything funky like that it was suggested that we take him home, force feed him until he started eating again on his own, and bring him back if nothing was improving. When the vet shaved his belly for the ultrasound we saw just how jaundiced his poor little body was. So yellow.
He spent a few days at home over the heater vent licking up a teaspoon or two of water, but it was obvious that things were getting worse.  He went back in to the kitty doctor the next day and a biopsy of his liver was taken and more fluids were injected. That was on Friday and Saturday afternoon he hid under the far corner of my bed, something he has never done before.  He finally was coaxed out by lots of cozy hot air coming out of the heater vent.  I gave him lots of loves and had a little talk with him that if he was ready to go home we didn't want him to suffer any more.
Sunday he was breathing fast shallow breaths and not moving. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was like all of the life was sucked out of him and he was just breathing out of habit.  His sweet playful personality was long gone at this point.  We called the vet and she agreed that the most humane thing to do was to put him to sleep so he wouldn't have to suffer through the rest of the night, or who knows how many more days. She did an x-ray of him and will tell us the results of the biopsy tomorrow so we may know what took our sweet boy from us. She said that the rapid decay of his back leg muscles and lack of reflex response signal that something neurological was going on as well.

Whatever the cause may have been we know that he was a wonderful, loving, playful little boy (only about 6 years old) and that the 3 months we had with him were well worth it. I miss my little furry guy more than I can even express.
I love you Tosh Guster Chocolate Moose Colombo ♥

Best Friends Foreverrrrrr!

I think it is time that I make some introductions via blog post.
Meet Erika.

Erika is my bestest friend and we literally spend all of our time together aside from working and sleeping (except sometimes we sleep in the same twin sized bed. Our guy friends think it is especially weird that we are comfortable with that, but dudes, girls start sharing beds with each other from the time they are like 7. Its just standard procedure.)

We just celebrated our one year anniversary in October and will probably have a fiesta for it every year since our friendship officially began at a Halloween party.  I had just moved to a new part of town and the atmosphere was completely different than any other part of campus that I had lived at previously.  It was much more quiet and you had to already be part of a group to be invited to things (Except for wolf howling lessons. I think that's a different story though.)  Erika and I lived in neighboring apartments and she came over a few Saturday mornings to invite us to her apartment's breakfast parties.  Something in me was shy and intimidated and I only went once, very briefly. Luckily she is a persistent little thing and didn't think that I was anti-social. The day of our ward Halloween party she came over looking for markers and yes, I have every craft supply necessary, so I let her borrow mine as well as the crown from my birthday party. What on Earth could this costume be? None other than the Queen of Hearts! I was some kind of witchy thing. My real costume wasn't ready yet.

I have a slightly obsessive personality so when I meet people and get along with them I just want to spend all of my time in their presence.  We quickly realized that we are both extreme literary and grammar nerds and bonded over facebook flair and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.  We even signed up for two of the same classes winter semester so that we would see each other every day on campus.

I have to add that after typing "grammar" into google images I found this one and I started laughing uncontrollably.
I think I should probably lay off the candy pumpkins for a little bit. Oh whoops! They're all gone!

Back to the subject. We have now spent 12 months of constant companionship guaranteed to drive each other's roommates nuts and we just get cooler and cooler! There is nothing better in the world than finding people that fit perfectly into your puzzle.  We both have best friends from growing up but as life changes so do our needs in our support group and we're just great for each other.  I was thinking the other day that if I had gone on a mission like I had planned I wouldn't get home until next April at the earliest and we never would have met!

Here's to my best friend. The one who knows just what I am thinking, enjoys being ridiculous, is not ashamed of who she is, works harder than anyone I know at having balance in her schedule, rocks the most amazing ugly sweatshirts, prefers moccasin slippers to shoes, indulges in eating out when we both know we can't afford it, likes starting new traditions, has an adorable freckle on her nose named Hammy, doesn't get mad when people tell her that the animal she looks most like is a mouse or a hamster, will handle my repetitive boy talk and then dish her own out to me endlessly, comes to see me at work while braving the wrath of my sometimes super grumpy boss, lets me come to her office to brave her usually crazy boss, race reads young adult novels with me, MEETS ME IN THE FOREST (uh, go watch Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs please), adores henna tattoos, quotes crappy movies like House Bunny with me, and harmonizes to Ke$ha and Nelly with me on freezing car rides!
Now you may enjoy many pictures that show some of these fabulous things :)

Super excited about our Mockingjay pins and desperately wishing we'd win a copy of the book! Alas, Erika did win something, a 75 cent soda at Horkely's.

Please disregard my Draco Malfoyish hair and crappy t shirt. I started this day in California. You'd look like poop too.

Making faces in the crowd of J.Wride's concert

Birthday orange dreamsicles and the funniest henna tattoo of all time

Yay! She helped me throw the best birthday party!

Showin' off those buff Rosie the Riveter arms she developed in our weight lifting class.

This is our tradition of "attack cake". Didn't I promise a post on that? Remind me of it later please.

Sampling the delish food at Sammy's. We had a little chat with Sammy himself that night and talked him into letting us have the first ever peppermint shakes. That happened like 3 days later :)

I'm trying to convince her into being a blogger because I know she'll be fantastic at it, but its slow business. Give her some encouragement! The Key of E

We have a most musical friendship and this is the best way to share that

I Have A Time Machine And It Took Me To 2006

How on Earth did I forget about this song??? It brings back beautiful memories of my senior year of high school and one great trip to Santa Cruz.  Also what? Johnny Depp is in this video? Weird.

Girls, Heed The Warning

When the boy that you have been dating tells you that he is "Summer" and you are "Tom" be smart and run away.  Remember how that works out? You get stabbed 13 times with a kitchen knife like Sid did to Nancy.  And you don't win in the end no matter how hard you try.  He warned you.  And then he played the silly game where he wanted to stay best friends and take you on dates, but he really was done with you and didn't care that you couldn't turn off your feelings.  He was your best friend for those few months and you don't remember what you did every Saturday night before him.  He's your world, but alas, you are not his.
It won't work out. He said so a million times.  And you thought you could change it. Move on.
His friends are nicer to you anyway.

Devin, this post is for you. Because you complained that I wasn't writing about my dating life on my blog.  Maybe because there was already a movie made about it.
